History of Telethons in aid of ALS Malta

2016

13th May 2016

  • Bjorn Formosa raises €437,462 in a single telethon session for research into ALS and medical equipment for fellow ALS sufferers. The money was used to purchase medical equipment for ALS sufferers and on research into the degenerative disease, for which there is no known cure.

2017

3rd March 2017

  • The Xarabank fundraiser sought to help campaigner Bjorn Formosa achieve his dream of building the first home that is specially equipped for people living with ALS. The fundraiser also featured a live call from Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, who announced that the government would be paying for all services needed in the specialised home.

2018

20th October 2018

  • The sum of €921,856 was raised by the end of the programme – the funds went towards the opening DAR Bjorn 2.

2019

25th October 2019

  • The €801,616 raised by the people who donated to Xarabank fundraiser will be used to help in Dar Bjorn 2.

2020

27th September 2020

  • Almost €1.5 million was raised towards the second Dar Bjorn in a telethon held throughout Sunday. The telethon ran from midday to midnight on Sunday, and culminated in the raising of €1,436,955 in donations towards the planned second Dar Bjorn.
