ALS Malta was founded in August 2015 by its founder and ALS sufferer Bjorn Formosa. The aim of this foundation is to raise awareness about ALS and MND conditions, improve patients quality of life and invest in research to find a cure.



We help patients inside their own homes live a better life.



We offer these residents all-inclusive care



Once we open the second home we will help another 30 patients with an all-inclusive care.

Our first neurological home

The nursing home in Qormi was opened after a successful TV telethon during TVM’s popular show Xarabank raised by the ALS Malta Foundation and its founder and himself ALS sufferer, Bjorn Formosa.

DAR Bjorn aims to improve the quality of life of people with ALS, MS and other Neurological conditions through 24/7 Nursing Care and specialised treatment. Together with the around the clock nursing care, various services are offered including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech language pathology, psychological services, spiritual services, general medicine, nutritional services, podology, neurological consultancy…

Residents inside DAR Bjorn are furnished with the latest in medical technological advancements and medical equipment. All is provided free of charge thanks to the continuous work of the ALS Malta Foundation. The Government of Malta helps with the financing of the day to day care activities

DAR Bjorn is equipped with an intelligent smart home system and an eye gaze centralized controller. Live streaming entertainment and smart audio systems are also available inside each room. ​
